Kindergarten Honors Day
Today was Caroline's Honors Day at school and I went into it excited to see her with her classmates and teachers and enjoy her end-of-the-year party but I was sideswiped with emotions. It hit me when all the little kindergartners sang a song to the parents and one of the lines said "we've learned our ABC's and 123's and now we're ready for FIRST grade". I couldn't hold it together and was wiping tears as they sang their precious song as they acknowledged the end of this precious phase, excited about the graduation to their next step.
Caroline has always acted old for her age and so I've been used to her feeling "old" but I still knew she was a kindergartner, which still seems preschool-ish to me. Does that make sense? First grade seems to be a huge step into the real world of education and it amazes me that 7 years ago I was waddling around wondering what it was going to be like to have our first baby.
She was such a cutie today, enjoying all the festivities. She has such sweet little friends in her class and she truly seems to be well-liked by so many...which we love to see.
We've loved her teachers this year and will definitely be requesting both of them for Doster and Mary Anna. Of course, we can't request them by name but we can write a letter to the school using adjectives to describe them. As I was walking out to the van I was thinking of those adjectives and I came up with:
energetic, creative, engaging, stable, committed, fun, long-term stability in our community and in teaching, a true love for the kids and a genuine interest in their lives.
Caroline loved her kindergarten year and adored her teachers and the excitement of each day. I am sad to see this year pass but am so pleased to be able to say it was a wonderful, memorable and fun year for our Sunshine.

Doster was so cute as he wanted to go down and give Sissy a hug & kiss.
He walked so cautiously but bravely in front of all of the big kids.
