sniff sniff
Mommy: Doster when you go to preschool next year you won't be able to suck your fingers anymore. You'll have to be a big boy who doesn't suck his fingers.
Doster: Okay.
Mommy: Do you think you can learn to not suck your fingers?
Doster: Yes, I can. But when I get home I can suck my fingers and when I go to bed I can suck my fingers?
Mommy: No, big boys don't suck their fingers. You'll have to learn how to stop doing it at home and at preschool.
Doster: Okay, Mommy. You can help me learn how to not suck my fingers.
Mommy: Yes, I will help you learn!
Doster: Okay Mommy. You are the coolest Mommy ever!

Even though this is something I need to help Doster stop doing it does break my heart a bit to start the process. As you can see, these few pictures, of the many we have of him sucking his fingers, are all in someone's arms snuggled up and still. Ahhhhh
Doster began doing this when he was just a baby and, for me, it has always been so endearing. My little Bubbie is growing up and, honestly, I just don't want him to grow one more day.
He's my only boy and, yes, affects me differently and in a way that my girls can't...just as they touch my heart in ways that he is unable. I long to hold back time and enjoy each of them in each of their stages twice as long...
I used to suck those exact same two fingers and hold my blanket close to my face just like that!!! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for taking the time to share your life with so many. It is such a blessing to read each post and have them illustrated with your wonderful pictures.
ReplyDeleteI totally understand - boys are amazing!! Lucas just stopped sucking his thumb and it was surprisingly easy for him to stop but I was SO sad when he stopped b/c it meant he was growing up ... time just goes SO fast!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for documenting this ... I need to do it as well - maybe once we move!! :-)
