Tubes, Adenoids and Tonsils
This morning went so well when Doster had tubes put in and his adenoids and tonsils taken out. The surgery took 50 minutes and, even though the going to sleep was very hard emotionally for Mommy (he really fought it), he took it like a champ.
The doctor said he did have very large tonsils and adenoids so we should see some great improvement with the sleep apnea and breathing and, of course, the tubes will help out so much with the ear infections. Unlike the other two times he has had anesthesia he woke up very peacefully with only a little crying and then slept in Mommy's arms for about 45 minutes, which Mommy LOVED.
He did throw up on the way home and told us his mouth really hurt but we got him some applesauce when we got home, along with his pain medicine. He is now snuggled on a pallet on the floor in our room to sleep and I am going to go in and join him as I am spent.
I was worried how he would feel about Mommy having to help hold him down as the mask was placed over his face and he screamed himself into the anesthesia, and what memories he would keep, but when I just asked him if he remembered going to sleep he said "Mommy, they forgot to put the mask on me." Thank you, Lord, for that little blessing as I will never forget how hard it was but, thankfully, he hasn't a clue.
We had three special visitor's with us today - Grandma, Minnie and one of the pastor's from our church, Doug. It is such a treat for Doster to be able to have his Grandma's with him as we went through today and such a special treat for Jason and I to see the support of our church and our mothers.
Update: Since I wrote this post this afternoon Doster has asked for 2 pieces of banana bread, 2 pancakes, a bowl of applesauce and a bowl of yogurt...the kid is hungry!! He is pretty irritable but is doing well overall. They said not to expect solids for a few days but, apparently, Doster is out to prove them wrong. Right now he is talking to his Papaw, who lives in Social Circle, on the phone telling him about all the food he's eaten.
I was also thinking that we've told ourselves, as we were preparing for this day, that this type of surgery is very routine and he'll be fine...which I think is really easy to take for granted. Maybe we're making it too much of a routine deal and leaving out the fact that the Lord took care of Doster today and helped our family through this day safely without anything scary happening. Jason and I prayed several times for Doster, his doctors and nurses and the surgery before today. Last night before Caroline went to Grandpa and Grandma's we prayed for him, this morning before we left the van, after I walked away from him in the operating room we prayed together. As I am learning from some of the ladies in my Bible study...even the small things, even the routine requests, even the little details are important to our Lord and He wants us to pray, to petition Him in ALL situations, not just the huge insurmountable ordeals in our lives. So, I feel such a peace and victory tonight in looking back on today as, not routine, but rather a safe and successful day given to us by our Father as we were cradled in His love all day long...He heard our prayers, our requests, as He hears each of us when we go to Him...He loves this communion we form with him through our open communication in the good times and the bad, in the routine and the extreme.

Doster with his panda from Daddy and Eeore (sp?) from Grandma.

Doster got really wound-up right before they took him back...I think it was a case of the jittery nerves.
