Storms

Last night wasn't fun. The strong storm kept Caroline upset. We thought it was the typical fear of thunder and lightening but after the 4th trip down (with pillow in hand saying she wanted to sleep with us) we discovered she was actually scared about a flood. When Jason asked her why she was thinking that she said because Mommy said there was a flood in Iowa. We explained to her that we live on a mountain and the water does drain etc but was was scared that Mel and Denver were going to get lost in the water and that we would lose all of our things in our house because they would float away. After some explanations she seemed okay and fell asleep around 10:30.

We finally got Doster to sleep without a noise maker/fan/or night light since there was no electricity (about 3-4 trips upstairs). He woke up from thunder about 10:00 and SCREAMED b/c it was so dark and he was so scared. I stumbled upstairs because it truly was pitch black up there and we set a flashlight on the floor pointing down to give him a little light and let it just run down but not after about 3 more trips up because his tiredness turned everything into sobbing screaming fits.

All of this while we were actually sleeping in bed. Since there was no power we decided to go to bed early and every time the kids came down or cried we had "just fallen asleep". We were both nauseous from all the jolted up and downs.

Around midnight the lights suddenly turned on, TV turned on, etc....just as we had both drifted back asleep again. Of course, Doster's light flips on too and he is up again. As soon as Jason got up there he said "you turn my music back on?" which means his sound machine and he immediately fell asleep to the sound of the roaring ocean.

What a great evening!
