I've found myself holding back on cooking time with Caroline. I discovered that I think it is because her requests are usually when I am in the middle of supper preparations when I am trying to get food done quickly. That time of day is usually the most hectic, patience is thin, and we are all hungry - thus I tend to say "no" more often than not.

So, a few days ago I asked her when she woke up if she would help me make cookies that day. It didn't actually happen until afternoon but it was on-purpose baking, which is truly what made the difference. I was relaxed and we really enjoyed the time. It was a great learning time for Caroline as I explained why we grind our own wheat as we scooped up the grain out of our huge buckets in the basement. We talked about what the different ingredients do for the cookies, how to measure ingredients and how to scoop the cookies onto the baking sheet.

Afterwards we took some to our neighbors next door. They weren't home but she and Doster were able to deliver them a few hours later.
